Digital educational metadata repositories in France
The French Ministry of Education promotes the adoption of learning technology standards since 2003. The Ministry encourages the use of ICT, specially the production, access and use of learning resources. Several stakeholders are involved in the development of learning object repositories: the ministry of education, the national agency of ICTE, universities, professional training institutions and publishers.

Educasources offers a free access to educational metadata, proposes thematic selections in connection with French curriculum and also a search engine with advanced search through several sorting criteria (educational level, educational subjects, keywords and thematic sub-repertories). Educasources target users are teachers, librarians and other members of the educational community (pupils, students, parents …).
The ScoLOMFR application profile is used. Resources are described using CNDP’s educational controlled vocabularies (French educational thesaurus Motbis and other educational vocabularies).

Higher Education repositories
Thematic Digital Universities
The French Ministry of Education funds the federation of universities grouped by thematic or regional interests. The goal of Thematic Digital Universities is to share learning and educational resources in interoperable systems accessible both through the digital universities portals and from the institutions’ digital workspaces.

UVED
UVED is the Digital Thematic University specialized in Environment and Sustainable Development. The repository contains about 500 resources.
UNJF
UNJF is the Digital Thematic University specialized in laws. The access to the repository is reserved to the students and teachers registered in a partner university.
Canal-U
Canal-U is the digital video library for the higher education. The service was funded by the Ministry of Education. Target users are teachers and students. Resources are described under the LOMFR application profile.
CERIMES
CERIMES is the multimedia resources and information center for higher education and it is associated to CNDP. CERIMES proposes different services all presented under a Dewey Decimal Classification browsing system: a catalog of more than 3000 audiovisual, multimedia and internet resources and videos of different conferences. Some resources can be bought.
Digital educational metadata tools in France
The French Ministry of Education supports the development of learning technologies standards since 2001. The French standardization body, AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation), is involved in some international projects about technologies for education and learning. Educational metadata standardization for digital resources is one of the major working axes in France.
The DGESCO (Direction Générale de l’Enseignement Scolaire) proposes a report about educational metadata standardization.
LOM application profiles
ScoLOMFR Application Profile
ScoLOMFR is the French application profile of the IEEE LOM standard and the LOMFR standard, specialized in the primary and secondary school levels. It is the result of the work led by the Vocabnomen project involving teachers, librarians, IT experts and other educational entities.
http://eduscol.education.fr/dossier/metadata/ressources-educatives-numeriques/vocabnomen
Experts from CNDP have contributed to the ScoLOMFR creation and promotion. The specificity of this application profiles are the vocabularies. A namespace, an XML schema and vocabularies are available in the website: http://lom-fr.fr/scolomfr/
LOMFR Application Profile
LOMFR is the French application profile of the IEEE LOM standard. It was coordinated by AFNOR and SDTICE. It was produced by a working group formed by different educational actors: higher education researchers and teachers, primary and secondary education actors, professional training associations and private publishers.
Experts from CNDP have contributed to the LOMFR creation and promotion.
The French profile adds 2 new elements and modifies some vocabularies from LOM. An XML binding, 2 XML schemas and a SCHEMATRON validator are also available. http://lom-fr.org/
MétaSCÉRÉN Application Profile
MétaSCÉRÉN is the CNDP and SCEREN’s application profile of the IEEE LOM standard. It was produced by metadata experts and cataloguers within the SCEREN network. It is closely based on LOMFR. The use of SCEREN controlled vocabularies is one of the main characteristics of this profile. It targets the primary and secondary education levels.
SupLOMFR Application Profile
SupLOMFR is the higher education application profile of LOMFR.
The profile specifies how to use LOMFR elements in a higher education context.
Metadata editors
Éducaméta
Éducaméta is a free online metadata editor and converter, proposed by the French National Educational Resources Center (CNDP).
Features:
- Create metadata on Dublin Core, LOM, LOMFR and MétaSCÉRÉN XML formats.
- Import XML files in the above standards to edit metadata.
- Convert metadata between the different proposed standards: Dublin Core HTML, Dublin Core XML, LOM, LOMFR and MétaSCÉRÉN.

ORI-OAI
ORI-OAI is a referencing and indexing tool for a network of OAI Portals.
The objective of the project is to create an open source system to manage the different types of digital resources produced by the higher education institutions: teaching and learning resources, theses, administrative documents. The system added value is the capacity to share resources between institutions using different interoperability standards as LOM, LOMFR, OAI/PMH and using a complete system to access the information by authenticated users.
One of the ORI-OAI components is a metadata editor that can be used independently from the whole platform.

Coredu
Coredu is an open catalog of educational published resources for the primary and secondary school levels. The system contains a metadata editor, an OAI/PMH repository, a search engine. It uses the unique identifiers ARK system and the ScoLOMFR application profile vocabularies. It is based in the ORI-OAI technologies.
Cinematic
Cinematic is an educational resources website that proposes searching and describing functionalities. The system is based on LOM, LOMFR and OAI/PMH standards. It is necessary to be authenticated to describe or propose new learning resources.
