Austrian Educational Repositories
Austria has 9 regions with regional repositories and those repositories offer different themes and project information as well as many of the regional repositories co-operate with each other.
Standards as IEEELom, SCORM and Dublin Core as well as standards given by European Schoolnet are the basis of the Austrian “new” repositories, as content exist much longer as those mentioned standards. All new content have to been made according those mentioned standards.
The Ministry offers various Repositories
Bildung.at implemented by bit media for the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture.
Bildung.at is a learning portal for teachers, pupils/students and administrators. It has 500,000 registered users and provides access to online content (informatics, foreign languages, etc.), which was purchased for Austrian Schools by the Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture. It has access to other learning services (communities etc.)
Bildungspool is an educational platform which offers entry points/’e-learning contents for various subjects to federated search within the EU co-funded projects CALIBRATE and MELT. This should help to offer access to more content on an European basis. In “Bildungspool” teachers can also download content funded by the e-content programme of the Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture. This programme funds content produced by teachers which meets certain quality criteria for the use in all Austrian schools. Another source of “Bildungspool” is the encyclopedia “AEIOU” with around 15.000 items offering a detailed overview of Austria in form of texts, pictures, sounds and videos. Also approximately 15.000 pictures (assets) from the Institute for culteral Sciences of the medival Age and around 8.000 pictures (assets) in low resolution from the art gallery “Albertina” are available.
eTeaching Austria, a specialized platform for notebook classes. Approximatly 1.000 teachers and 10.000 pupils/students are using their private notebook in school for all subjects. The website offers a repository especially for students and teachers of these notebook classes.
EDUMOODLE: This portal promotes on one hand moodle trainings and advises how to provide content on school level – open source learning platform - and offers on the other hand advise to share the own content with other non profit content providers and repositories. Edumoodle is with more than 2.200 schools the most used eteaching platform and repository in Austria, which can be seen on the big amount of available contents on the portal.
Virtuelle Schule, is a repository hosted on Eduhi with a lot of useable content offered by variours subjects.
Education Highway www.eduhi.at is by far the biggest educational repository in Austria. Teachers as well as students find up-to-date information as well as comprehensive material on topics related to schools and education selected by educationalists. The repository offers over 80.000 contents and links selected and described by a team of over 80 teachers of various subjects. education highways over 35 subject oriented portals are also implemented into www.schule.at, an Austrian portal which is a cooperation of the Federal Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture and the Federal Government of Upper Austria.
Lernmit offers a repository with best practice examples in the field of e-learning usable for teachers/students from primary to upper secondary schools.
Burgenländischer Bildungsserver: This initiative of the Austrian Federal Goverment of Burgenland is a repository with a special connection to their virtual learning environment LMS (open source), which offers in addition to e-learning content in german various croatian and hungarian e-content.
